Moving your pet interstate in Australia

Chess Moving can help you and your pet cross state borders and settle into your new home. No stress or hassle involved!

If you’re moving interstate and want to take your furry (or feathery) friend with you, you’ll be relieved to learn this is a breeze compared to moving your pet overseas.

You don’t have to worry about navigating strict quarantine and customs requirements, which takes a huge weight off your shoulders, while saving your pet a lot of hassle.

But it can still be a stressful process, for everyone involved.

Think about how anxious some humans feel when flying. Now imagine that you’re an animal, with no clue as to how you found yourself in a travel crate, why your ears are popping or what that turbulence is.

Chess Moving has partnered with the caring professionals at Jetpets Animal Transport, so we can make this process as easy as possible for you and your companion.

With more than 25 years experience in the airline industry, Jetpets have pet travel consultants, handlers and vets on their team, to make sure your pet has a safe and comfortable trip.

A few factors to consider when moving your pet interstate:

  • Are there any restrictions on your pet? Certain animals are considered pests in some states and therefore prohibited (for example, rabbits in Queensland).
  • Does your airline have any regulations and requirements when it comes to moving pets?
  • Does your pet need any vaccines or health certificates before they travel (depending on the state or territory you’re moving to)?
  • What kind of travel crate is best?
  • Is there anything you can do to make the trip more comfortable for your pet (like leaving a chew toy in their carrier to help with ear popping)?

We can advise you on all of this, and more!

Helping your pet to settle into their new home:

Keep in mind that animals don’t adjust very well to new surroundings, so it’s a good idea to set up your new home before your pet arrives, so they’re not distressed by all the clutter and chaos as you unpack.

If this isn’t possible, consider confining your pet to one room, while you prepare the rest of the house.

It’s also a good idea to put your new phone number on your pet’s collar, in case they become confused and run away. Make sure you update your contact details, if your pet is microchipped.
