Moving is stressful and even more stressful when you throw a pandemic into the mix. You may be wondering if it’s feasible and safe to be moving during COVID-19. The short answer is, yes, but it varies by city and location. Moving house in Adelaide/South Australia during the Coronavirus restriction rule is possible. However, it would help if you were informed of the guidelines and recommendations. The following information will help you know how to go about picking up and relocating during a pandemic.

What is the Status of COVID-19 in Adelaide?

As you may or may not know, Adelaide is the main city in South Australia. It's important to practice safety measures, however, there’s still uncertainty that exists around what you can and can’t do to a certain extent. For a up to date list you can check the keeping SA Safe & Strong website

Density requirements are in place and physical distancing or social distancing principles apply. The total number of people at a place must not exceed 3 people per 4 square metres.. Every person should attempt to stay at least 1.5 metres from other members of the public. However, this does not apply to people who live together, who are friends or family members, or people who regularly associate with each other.

Are Removalists Essential Services?

Currently, the answer is yes. Although there have been recent changes to border controls, Removalists are considered an 'essential service' under freight and logistics definitions by each State Government and can move your goods.

Is it Safe to Move House in Adelaide During the Pandemic?

All people wishing to enter SA now need to fill in a SA border pass before arrival (best option is to do 14 days in advance). If moving to SA from Victoria or a hot spot as directed by the SA government - you will also need to undergo a compulsory COVID-19 test.

Below are additional measures you need to take:

·         14 days self-isolation effective immediately upon entry and to be enforced by Border Control from 4 pm Tuesday 24th March UNLESS arriving directly from selected NSW, NT, WA, TAS or QLD.

·         Removalists ARE exempt from requiring 14 days self-isolation and can move your goods interstate to your new home under the SA Government definition of essential Freight and Logistics services.

·         Other options available are local branch pick up from your home then onto the interstate rail and then local branch drops off to your new home in South Australia (without need for Interstate truck drivers).

·         View SA gov general information here

Will I Need to Self-Isolate After Moving into My New Home?

Different rules apply depending on where you are moving to. For example, if you are moving to South Australia, Border Control will enforce you to self-isolate for 14 days, which is effective immediately upon entry. However, you can move your goods under the exemption list, and removalists do not need to self-isolate for the two-weeks.

How Can I Stay Safe During My Move?

If you have, are showing symptoms of, or have been in contact with anyone with COVID-19, you should let the Removalist know in advance so they can best support your move and move timing safely after any relevant quarantine measures. Consider making your payment over the phone instead of handing your movers cash. We also make sure that our staff washes their hands, vans, and equipment all of the time. It’s best to manage the move together in a contactless manner, so everyone remains safe and healthy.
